Little Wonders (Class I & II)

The curriculum for classes I and II at DPS Surajkund is one of inquiry-based learning and experiential education. We focus on developing our students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, allowing them to be independent and self-motivated. As they engage with the curriculum, they become increasingly curious and reflective. Our aim is to nurture their minds and their development of knowledge and awareness of themself, their culture, and the world around them. In doing so, we strive to create citizens of the world, who will think for themselves, solve complex problems, and become the leaders of tomorrow.

Our young Dipsites happily indulge in experimenting with new ideas, mistake-making, laughter-sharing, brain-stretching, and independence-building. They ask questions, we see creative explorers; they play outdoor games, we see motivated learners; they express, and we notice inquisitiveness. Holistic development is aimed at, through our child-friendly, creative, and play-based curriculum.

  • There is an emphasis on developing language, numeracy, cognitive, socio-emotional, and motor skills. Through creative play and social interactions, the little ones are equipped with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values in a truly engaging, innovative, and refreshing way.
  • Inspired by Howard Gardener’s Theory of Multiple Intelligence, emphasis is laid on Inquiry-based learning and exposure to a world beyond books through projects, celebrations, stage presentations, trips excursions, dramatization, sensory play, etc.
  • To develop listening skills, social skills, and peer partnership, Circle Time is a feature of daily activity.
  • Reflection at the end of the day and at the end of each concept helps deepen their understanding of the learnings.
  • Emphasis is on good communication, action, phonics, manners, social and emotional adjustments, awareness of the environment, and neuromuscular coordination through games and activities.
Our program is inspired by the best national and international practices
The Six Domains of our holistic program that helps our children in their holistic learning
Language and Literacy

Language development is crucial for empowering students to communicate confidently both orally and in writing, read for pleasure, and learn new information. It provides the base for later learning in other areas as well.

Numeracy and Logic

Teaching Numeracy at DPS Surajkund is based on research that has proven that what is done, is better understood, than what is drilled.

Socio-Emotional Learning

These encompass interpersonal abilities that assist individuals in making informed choices, problem-solving, critical thinking, effective communication, empathy, and a positive life approach.

Creative Arts

Our performing and visual arts program for young learners focuses on bringing out their creative expression in a fun, safe and inspiring way.

World Around Us

At the Foundational Stage, it's crucial to offer children opportunities to investigate their surroundings and foster a deeper understanding. Our program, "World of Wonders" (WOW), enables children to explore their environment comprehensively, from the immediate vicinity to distant horizons.

Physical and Mental Well-Being

The adage "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy" reflects our belief in the essential balance between academics and sports to unlock a child's full potential. This equilibrium not only fosters gross motor skills but also cultivates valuable personal attributes like teamwork, leadership, dedication, discipline, self-confidence, and self-esteem.

Play-Based Learning

“Play is the highest experience of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in child’s soul.” Froebel
We engage our children in fun and stimulating activities that help them explore their environment, gain confidence, and build life skills. Through activities such as outdoor play, crafts, music, movement, and games, children can explore and discover their world with joy and enthusiasm.

Multiple Intelligence

We strongly believe in the theory of multiple intelligence which suggests that each child has unique talents, strengths, and weaknesses. By exploring their individual interests and passions, they can uncover their individual learning style and what best helps them develop their natural talents.

Language and Literacy

Language development is crucial for empowering students to communicate confidently both orally and in writing, read for pleasure, and learn new information. It provides the base for later learning in other areas as well. To fulfill these goals, in the foundational years, we focus on the building of pre-literacy skills such as phonological awareness, print awareness, letter-sound correspondence, and building words and sentences. Listening and comprehension, oral skills, and vocabulary development is other important part of it which are developed through various play-based activities.

Numeracy and Logic

Teaching Numeracy at DPS Surajkund is based on research that has proven that what is done, is better understood, than what is drilled. Our numeracy program focuses on building a solid foundational understanding of number sense, geometry and measurement, and statistics and probability through research-based activities differentiated for different learning styles. Our approach encourages children to think critically and solve contextual problems rooted in their environment, listening to children’s mathematical thinking, and encouraging young minds to explore problem-solving strategies and better understanding from an early stage.

Socio-Emotional Learning

These encompass interpersonal abilities that assist individuals in making informed choices, problem-solving, critical thinking, effective communication, empathy, and a positive life approach. To establish a solid foundation, we break them into smaller units, covering self-help, habit formation, cooperation, emotional expression, and understanding others. Our facilitators are committed to offering ample opportunities for enriching experiences through SEE Learning, which plays a pivotal role in molding our Dipsites into accomplished individuals.

Creative Arts

Our performing and visual arts program for young learners focuses on bringing out their creative expression in a fun, safe and inspiring way. We incorporate activities such as music, theatre, art, and creative movements. We use these creative tools to help them better understand their emotions, promote communication and express themselves.

World Around Us

At the Foundational Stage, it’s crucial to offer children opportunities to investigate their surroundings and foster a deeper understanding. Our program, “World of Wonders” (WOW), enables children to explore their environment comprehensively, from the immediate vicinity to distant horizons. This early exposure assists them in forging connections, cultivating awareness, fostering appreciation, and becoming more sensitive to environmental concerns, including those related to nature and the physical surroundings. Ultimately, it empowers them to become environmentally conscious and responsible global citizens, akin to dedicated “Environment Soldiers”.

Physical and Mental Well-Being

The adage “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy” reflects our belief in the essential balance between academics and sports to unlock a child’s full potential. This equilibrium not only fosters gross motor skills but also cultivates valuable personal attributes like teamwork, leadership, dedication, discipline, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Sports, we believe, imparts crucial life lessons that academics alone cannot provide. Our Physical Education program is meticulously designed to support a child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth. It encourages an appreciation for movement and the body’s creative expression, fostering a positive attitude towards an active and healthy lifestyle. In the Foundation years, students engage in the Fundamental Skills Program, which teaches balancing, running, jumping, catching, and throwing while promoting hand-eye coordination through enjoyable team-building games.

Circle Time

Circle Time for kids is a fun, interactive activity designed to bring kids together in a safe and engaging atmosphere. It’s an opportunity to build communication, develop their social skills, and build a sense of community with their peers and teachers.

Class Library

Children can use the class library to browse a wide gamut of books available in their classrooms. It plays a significant role in creating a great childhood learning experience that not only enhances their knowledge and helps them build their vocabulary, but it also adds to their imagination.

Story Time

Storytime is an incredibly beneficial learning experience for children, as it encourages them to make sense of the world around them through stories and play. Not only does it help them develop their language and literacy skills, but it also supports their cognitive development and social-emotional growth. We also connect children with their roots through some well-selected stories.

Art and Design

It has been designed for kids with the aim of inspiring creative exploration, experimentation, and learning. The station features multiple materials and tools such as paints, canvases, papers, brushes, markers, chalk, and coloured pencils.

Free Play

We have a scheduled time for kids to play freely in the school! It helps in keeping kids energized, develops their learning and collaboration skills, and helps children stay engaged and excited about coming to school every day.

Discover and Sensory Station

These fun-filled, age-appropriate, open-ended hands-on learning centers are designed to help kids explore, discover, and learn through touch, sound, and sight. Each station consists of a variety of items such as magnets, beads, play dough, tweezers, texture boxes, and colourful visuals.

Munch Time

Munch time enables them to enjoy a nutritious treat with their friends. They look forward to this break in school to eat something they enjoy while they get to know their classmates and socialize with each other.

Reflection

It’s a cognitive process carried out to learn from experiences through individual inquiry and collaboration with others. It leads to deeper learning, helps create new relations between initial and acquired knowledge, and makes the learning process more effective. When the school day ends, young Dipsites’ minds are brimming with knowledge and understanding they have acquired through various learning experiences. Hence, it is important that they reflect upon their learning to keep it fresh in their minds. Through reflection and self-realization, the little minds realise that school time is fun, and knowledge is something to cherish. It also supports students’ learning.

Orientation Programme

This program helps parents feel more comfortable and knowledgeable about the school environment. It typically involves a tour of the school, an introduction to the teachers and staff, and an introduction to the curriculum and expectations for the school year. Additionally, parents have the opportunity to ask questions and receive answers from the teachers.
